Motion and alerts

Cut down alerts from the road or trees, or catch more of the path. The doorbell must be online.

Turn motion on or off

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap the menu (☰), then Devices.
  3. Tap the doorbell.
  4. Toggle Motion Detection on or off.

Zones, sensitivity and how often it looks

  1. On that same doorbell screen, tap Motion Settings.
  2. Use Motion Zones so the path and door are covered, and the road or a flag is not.
  3. Use the Motion Sensitivity slider. Lower it if you get too many alerts. Raise it if it misses people at the door.
  4. On battery models, under Advanced Settings you can set Motion Frequency (how often it checks) and turn on Advanced Motion Detection.
  5. Walk the path after you save, so you know it still fires where you want it.

Phone alerts

  1. Open the doorbell in the app.
  2. Turn on Ring Alerts (someone pressed the button) and Motion Alerts (someone walked into a zone).
  3. Also allow notifications for Ring in the phone’s own settings.

Smart Alerts (people, packages, vehicles) need a Ring Protect plan. Motion Schedules and Modes can silence alerts at set times — check those if it suddenly goes quiet.

Peel off any leftover plastic film on the front of the doorbell — it blocks motion. Ring’s own detail is in Using Motion Detection.
