Set up a Ring doorbell

Use the official Ring app. If we have just fitted the doorbell, you only need these app steps — leave it on the wall.

Have your Wi‑Fi password ready. Charge a battery doorbell first. Turn off any VPN on the phone. Set up one Ring device at a time.

  1. Download Ring and create an account, or log in.
  2. Open the app to the main dashboard and tap Set Up a Device at the bottom.
  3. Choose Doorbells.
  4. Scan the QR code. It is on the back of the doorbell, under the faceplate, or on the box. If the scan fails, tap the help icon and pick the model, or enter the PIN printed under the code.
  5. Add or pick a location (Home), then name the doorbell, for example Front Door.
  6. When the app asks, press the setup button on the doorbell (under the faceplate or on the back). The ring around the button should spin white. In the app tap Light is Spinning White.
  7. Join the temporary Ring Wi‑Fi network:
    • iPhone: when asked to join the Ring network, tap Join.
    • Android: the app usually joins on its own. If not, pick the network named Ring- or Ring Setup.
  8. Stay next to the doorbell. Select your home Wi‑Fi, enter the password, tap Continue, and wait. It may update itself — do not press the setup button or take power off while that runs.

Most Ring doorbells prefer 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi, especially at the front door. Some newer models can use 5GHz if it appears in the list.
